About Yatiyaña

The music group Yatiyaña consists of Bolivian musicians, whose goal is to make the Andes culture better known in Europe and especially in the Netherlands. They do this through their music using traditional instruments and dress up in the colourful, typical Bolivian clothing. Yatiyaña is an Aymara word, which in English mean communication and to pass on. Yatiyaña was founded on june 24, 1987 in São Paulo, Brazil by Bolivian musicians.

Bolivian music

The Bolivian music is connected to nature and the cosmos. It is music that reflects the mysticism of the high mountains. Where the Condor, king of the heights, lives and where you find the plateau where, at 4000 meters high, houses the highest lake in the world, Lake Titicaca.

Our music is connected with the fertile valleys, with mother earth and father son. She gives the melancholic weather that lies in the introverted character of the Andes folk, which is strengthened by the suffering caused under 500 years of suppression and the plundering and destruction of their over thousands of years old culture.

But she also reflects the vitality, the power with which the folk endures the blows.

The music that Yatiyaña brings, gives not only Bolivian sentiment but also that of the brotherlands, with which we want to join in with the very important feelings of kinship in our part of the world.

We try to collect that which binds us culturally, what the large majority of the Andes population has in common in her daily existence.

That reality of magical realism to what she gives traditional expression in her music and dance.
